Choose your path to earning your MSW


Traditional or Advanced Standing: complete your MSW in in as little as one year (30 credits) if you earned your bachelor in social work from an accredited institution or take 60 credits throughout two or more years — part-time or full-time.

Three platforms: in-person at our Wilf Campus in uptown New York City, in real time through our Live Virtual Classroom, or at your own time with our asynchronous online program.

Three advanced practice methods: choose clinical for one-on-one work with individuals and families, group work, or community practice where you develop advanced skills for advocacy, policy and leadership within communities and organizations.

Seven areas of study: earn your CASAC credential while pursing your MSW at no additional cost or choose from one of our six optional MSW Program Certificates.

Practicum: building skills for repairing the world one person at a time and supporting caring families, groups, and communities where everyone thrives is central to the practicum experience. More than 600 placement sites in the Greater New York Area, and throughout the U.S., Canada, and Israel assure you will gain the experience you seek.

Peer mentorship: learn alongside a second-year student who will help you navigate through your MSW experience.

BA/MSW Pathways Option 

The BA/MSW option allows undergraduates from Yeshiva College (YC) and Stern College for Women (SCW) to take up to 30 graduate credits that will count toward both their bachelor's and master's degrees. After completing their bachelor's, students can finish their MSW graduate degree in just one more year. 

  1. Admissions criteria: Juniors in the YC major of "Psychology and the Community" or SCW major of "Shaped in Human Services" with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (no exceptions). Students can begin taking graduate coursework in the fall semester of their senior year. The program does not allow for spring or summer starts.  
  2. Application Requirements: Submission of the graduate application including personal statement and letter of recommendation. YU transcripts will be pulled into the applicant record by the Graduate Admissions Team.

The Wurzweiler School of Social Work MSW Program Mission

To develop excellent social work practitioners for both Jewish Communal Services and for the wider world of social services, especially with regard to serving numerous vulnerable populations in the areas of immigration, healthcare, addictions, communal services, mental health, schools, life cycle issues, trauma.

To develop social workers who adhere to a distinct set of values of excellence in practice, social, economic, and environmental justice.

To develop social work practitioners who are culturally competent and place a high value on human relationships:

  • and capable in practicing within the framework of antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion,
  • And who apply scientific inquiry and principles of the social work relationship to understand the manifestations of antisemitism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, islamophobia, and various dehumanizing and marginalizing behaviors and their impact of intimidation and fear on individuals and communities.

To develop social work practitioners who are competent in practice who have advanced competencies in their specialization in (a) clinical social work practice with individuals and families or, (b) social work practice with groups, or, (c) community social work practice, to meet the needs of vulnerable populations.

To develop social workers who are competently able to use the self, with the self-awareness to practice ethically using a person-in environment framework, within the scope of their areas of competence, seeking supervision and knowledge to meet continuing challenges presented by vulnerable persons and communities.

To develop graduates who aim to provide leadership in the profession, in ethical practice, agency practicum instruction and staff supervision, agency administration, public policy development, and scholarship.
