VignettesBIBLICAL VIGNETTES: Four of the five rondelles on the lower half of the page depict scenes from the books of Genesis (chapter 48), Judges (14), Jonah (2), and Daniel (6:11). The top two are enclosed within a floral motif, while the bottom two are depicted within a more architectural setting. The center rondelle, a lavish wreath decorated with roses and pomegranates, encircles a blessing to remind the baal tokea (person who blows the ram's horn) to have the intention of fulfilling the commandment for himself and the congregation when he sounds the shofar (ram's horn).  Each scene is inscribed with the name and chapter of its respective book. Most of the depictions are faithful to the texts, including Daniel shown praying on his knees with hands upraised in the gesture of supplication, while the lions loll lazily. The lower rondelles each have a figure in contemporary dress standing above them with a horn. These figures are in keeping with the theme of the page, the blowing of the shofar.
