Shucheng Yu is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the Graduate Computer Science and Engineering Department at the Katz School of Science and Health, Yeshiva University. He directs the M.S. in Data Analytics and Visualization program and leads the AI Security and Trusted Systems Lab. Before joining Yeshiva University, he was a tenured Associate Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he directed the AISecLab research cluster in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and co-directed the Center for Innovative Computing and Networked Systems (iCNS).
Dr. Yu’s research is in information and network security, with work spanning AI security, LLM and agent security and governance, privacy-enhancing technologies, applied cryptography, distributed trust, wireless networking and sensing, IoT security and privacy, compliance, and post-quantum cryptography. His research program has addressed security and privacy challenges across cloud computing, encrypted data processing, personal health records, wireless and mobile systems, body area networks, federated learning, AI systems, and emerging cyber-physical systems.
Dr. Yu has published approximately 100 research papers in journals, conferences, and workshops. His work has received more than 13,000 citations on Google Scholar, with several publications receiving sustained attention in cloud data security, privacy-preserving data sharing, secure search, access control, and health-data privacy. His research on cloud data security received the IEEE INFOCOM Test of Time Paper Award in 2020, recognizing its impact over the preceding decade. He is a Fellow of IEEE, recognized for contributions to information and network security, and a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association.
Dr. Yu’s recent research focuses on practical approaches to trustworthy and resilient AI systems, AI agents, and AI-enabled applications, including healthcare, robotics, wireless sensing, and other cyber-physical systems. His group develops techniques that combine secure protocol design, trusted execution environments, privacy-preserving computation, post-quantum cryptography, and system-level protections. Recent projects also include secure and privacy-preserving federated learning, secure geographic search, adversarial robustness, integrated sensing and communication, RIS- and O-RAN-assisted sensing, UAV detection, and 5G/6G communication and sensing systems.
Dr. Yu has contributed to the research community through journal editorships, conference organization, proposal review, and professional service. He has served as an editor or guest editor for journals including IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Blockchain Technical Briefs, and other venues. He has also served in organizing roles for approximately 20 international conferences and workshops, including IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE ICC, IEEE HealthCom, IEEE CHASE, IEEE VTC, IEEE ICNC, and related security, networking, and connected-health venues.
Dr. Yu holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Students in the Katz School’s Department of Graduate Computer Science and Engineering recently gathered to share projects they had spent months building, testing, improving and sometimes completely rethinking. The ideas on display—artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analysis and virtual reality—might have sounded complicated, but the energy behind them was easy to understand: this was a celebration of creativity and problem-solving.
The Katz School’s Graduate Department of Computer Science and Engineering recently hosted a dynamic presentation of graduate student research, showcasing innovative capstone projects, independent studies and other research initiatives in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Data Analytics and Visualization.
