YU Library Book Talk | The Twersky Dynasty: From Chernobyl to the Bronx: The illustrated biography of HaRav Yaakov Yosef Twersky Online
To many the name Twersky has become almost a brand, numbering over 50,000 descendants worldwide, from doctors and journalists to rabbis and Hasidic leaders. The Twersky Dynasty: From Chernobyl to the Bronx, by Yitzchak Meyer Twersky and Nesanel Yoel Safran (Menucha Publishers, 2024) chronicles the 300-year story of this highly influential family.
Yitzchak Meyer Twersky, who spent 37 years tracing his roots—including Y-DNA testing and genealogical and archival research in global archives—will join Zalman Alpert to explore the dynasty’s modest origins in Ukraine, and how his father rebuilt his family’s legacy into the powerhouse it is today and reignited Jewish faith with his unique blend of Old-World wisdom and American approachability.
Yitzchak Meyer Twersky, an IT specialist for a healthcare company, received his B.A. from YU.
Zalman Alpert, formerly a librarian at the Mendel Gottesman Library, has published many articles on Hasidism and served as a research consultant on Jewish biographies.
