Jesse Abelman Receives Research Grant from AAJR

Jesse BlogCongratulations to Jesse Abelman, Revel doctoral candidate, on receiving a research grant from the American Academy of Jewish Research for his dissertation “Violence among Jews in Christian Europe during the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries.” AAJR provides stipends to graduate students in any field of Jewish Studies at a North American university who have submitted their prospectus and have a need to travel to collections to conduct research. He intends to use this grant to travel to Jerusalem in order to view manuscripts at the Institute for Microfilmed Hebrew Manuscripts at the Jewish National and University Library in Givat Ram. Jesse's research focuses on halakhic responses to violent crimes in Ashkenazi communities during the high middle ages. He is excited to be able to move beyond the sources that exist in print and hopes that the manuscripts will reveal new and exciting acts of violence which will enrich his research.
