Dear YU Community, Welcome back from the holidays! We hope you had a wonderful time with friends and family. Here is the latest issue of the View from YU, which focuses on our key strategic areas. Values and Leadership YU hosted a Yom Iyun to celebrate the official launch of the Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks-Herenstein Center for Values and Leadership; among the featured speakers was New York Times columnist Bret Stephens. In a special Torat Chesed Mission for Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war, YU students, accompanied by President Berman, went to Vienna to provide humanitarian aid. There, they were met by Austrian National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka, who thanked them for their relief efforts. Science and Technology YU’s seventh annual Hackathon, a 24-hour long programming marathon, attracted computer science students and budding technologists from across the University. And in a separate event, Nobel laureate Dr. Harvey Alter discussed his efforts behind the discovery of the hepatitis C virus. Great Jobs and Impactful Careers Advancing its exceptional work, the Shevet Glaubach Center for Career Strategy and Professional Development hosted a range of workshops and panel discussions focused on networking, résumé building and internship opportunities. Entrepreneurship and Innovation At two separate Fireside Chats, students learned from the life lessons of Martin Geller, founder of Geller & Company and a minority owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Indra Nooyi, former CEO and chairman of PepsiCo. And after six weeks of intensive efforts, the winners of the YU Innovation Challenge emerged victorious on Pitch Night. Congratulations to David Price ’24SB, Miriam Fried ’22S and Charlie Grill ’23YC, who wowed the judges with their startup proposal to innovate the electronic vehicle (EV) battery market. And lastly, after a three-year hiatus, the Yeshiva College Dramatics Society was back on stage in a production of Oldtimers Game by Lee Blessing, to the delight of enthusiastic audiences.
