Dr. Chaim Nissel Appointed University Dean of Students
Yeshiva University President Richard M. Joel has announced the appointment of Dr. Chaim Nissel as University Dean of Students.
In his new role, Nissel will direct all undergraduate student life, including counseling and health services, academic support, disability services, judicial affairs and housing, as well as working on student government, activities and campus programming.
Nissel came to Yeshiva University 16 years ago and has held several positions in both clinical and supervisory roles, including serving as director of the Counseling Centers-Manhattan Campuses and as associate dean of students for health affairs for the past six years. He also introduced the YU community to the YU-SOS (YU Supports Our Students) program where Counseling Center staff train University employees to better respond to students in distress.
Nissel holds a doctorate in school-clinical psychology and a master's in school psychology. He also serves as an adjunct instructor at YU’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work.
"My goal is to bring out the best of and for our students," said Nissel. "One of Yeshiva University’s strengths is that we’re a small institution. We care about each of our students and we have the ability to respond to the needs of individuals as well as the student body as a whole... we hope to empower students to be successful in all areas of their life."
