Dear Delegate,

Yeshiva University National Model United Nation is turning 20 this year.  Whether you were a delegate, chair, chaperone or a member of our support staff, it has been you who has made YUNMUN what it is, was and always will be.

For some, it is the thrill of coming to the New York metropolitan area to see hundreds of their friends and fellow high school students.  For some, it is the intense preparation, which takes months, that allows one to open their eyes to viewpoints that they would otherwise not realize.  Yet for others, it is the hundreds of hours of preparation that allow this conference to be what it is.

I started my journey into the world of YUNMUN as a freshman at Yeshiva College and over the next decade got to see all the inner workings of this amazing conference.  From the editor of the YUNMUN newspaper, to Technical Director to Conference Coordinator, I had the privilege to not only watch the conference grow and develop, but watch the conference participants grow as well.  I have seen delegates go from being high school students to become Yeshiva College and Stern College students who give back as chairs, assistant chairs, undersecretaries and the like.  I have even seen a few of those high school students become chaperones working for the high schools and sharing their knowledge and experience with the next generation of delegates.

Don’t think of this conference as a once a year 48 hour marathon, but rather think of it as a lifelong bond, that will last from year to year and generation to generation.  I always enjoy when past participants recognize me on the street and stop me to say hello.  They always have their favorite story and the memories are always enjoyable.

I wish you the best of luck while you prepare for YUNMUN this year and just remember, this is an experience you will still value 20 years from now.

B’hatzlacha.
