LETTER TO DELEGATES
Dear Delegate,
Congratulations on you’re having been selected to represent your school – and your country – at this year’s Yeshiva University National Model United Nations.
My name is Moshe Zharnest or as most people call me Ziggy, and I am this year’s Secretary General. I am a senior at Yeshiva University and am so excited to be able to run Model UN. This is my 7th year in Model UN and it is a privilege to chair it as we hit our 20th year!
This year’s conference will truly be one to remember as we celebrate this milestone but it is important to remember that we would have no conference without you, the delegates. I therefore strongly urge you to come to the conference with research and enthusiasm of representing your country and your school to help us ensure that Model UN lasts another 20 years.
There are conflicts and issues all over the globe that beg your involvement and with the growing advancement of our societies, we seem unable to escape the ravages of war, the horrors of hunger, disease, and poverty, and the inhumanity of hatred. The United Nations, an international body created to address such issues, is often helpful – and often not. The debates you will be participating in, the alliances and rivalries you will engage in, will illustrate the inherent difficulty, but ultimately uplifting possibility, in saying true change is really possible. No one will pretend that a few days spent in sessions at this conference will solve any of the world’s foremost problems. But knowledge is, and has always been, tremendous power. Hopefully this knowledge will spur passion and this much-needed enthusiasm will incite you to action in your individual high schools.
I know that many of your topics will be close to your heart and I am certain that all of you will bring creativity and revelation to sharing information and ideas about your topics.
Please logon to our website as more information about your respective committees becomes available. Avail yourselves of your chairs as they can be an invaluable resource. Don’t hesitate to contact them with questions, comments or feedback.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you in person on February 21st. Please feel free to contact me at Zharnest@yu.edu with absolutely any questions, comments or concerns about anything. Together, let’s make YUNMUN XX the best one yet!
Best of luck,
Moshe “Ziggy” Zharnest
