Certificate in Jewish Communal Services
In 1990, the Wurzweiler School of Social Work established the Certificate in Jewish Communal Service. The Certificate provides students who plan a career in the Jewish community with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the unique needs of the organized Jewish community and to acquire the skills for effective professional leadership within communal organizations, Jewish family foundations, and other settings.
In addition to the required core curriculum for all MSW students, enrollment in the Certificate includes three specialty elective courses:
- Jewish Response to Communal Needs
- Organizational Structure of the American Jewish Community
- Major Concepts in Jewish Cultural History.
All Certificate students will spend one year of their supervised field work in a Jewish communal agency.
Students enrolled in the Certificate will have the chance to enhance their learning experience through:
- Attending the United Jewish Communities’ General Assembly
- Participation in an Israel Study Seminar
- Agency site visits and seminars with leaders in the Jewish community
- Meeting with Jewish professionals about job and career opportunities.
