The following workshops will take place throughout the fall semester.
All workshops meet in the Conference Room in the Academic Advisement Center
To accommodate student schedules, the same workshop will be offered on multiple dates.
Students can attend one or all three workshops at their convenience.
Workshop One: Emotions and Learning
Dates: Mondays from 6 -7 on 8/31, 9/14
Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6:30 on 9/8, 9/22
This workshop covers the basic prerequisites for serious study.
Students will
assess their learning style
learn how to use worry and frustration to their advantage
learn the art of active listening
learn to manage time effectively
Workshop Two: Critical Reading and Note-taking
Dates: Mondays from 6 -7 on 10/19, 11/2, 11/16
Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6:30 on 10/27, 11/10
This workshop teaches students to read beyond general comprehension.
Students will
learn to evaluate reading assignments
learn to link ideas together in meaning ways
learn to recognize probable exam questions while reading
learn to write organized and effective notes
Workshop Three: Multiple-choice tests
Dates: Mondays from 6 -7 on 11/30, 12/14
Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6:30 on 12/8, 12/22
This workshop teaches students to perform high on all types of exams.
Students will
learn to read questions for meaning
learn important signal words
learn to effectively choose the correct answer on multiple-choice tests
