Meet Ephraim Kanarfogel
Ephraim Kanarfogel is a man who wears many hats. He is E. Billi Ivry Professor of Jewish History, chairman of the Rebecca Ivry Department of Jewish Studies, and director of the Graduate Program for Women in Advanced Talmudic Studies. Dr. Kanarfogel received his BA, MA, and PhD from YU and was ordained by its affiliate, RIETS. He began teaching at SCW in 1979, and has headed the Jewish studies program since 1984. Dr. Kanarfogel is an internationally recognized authority on medieval Jewish history and rabbinic literature. He is the author or editor of five books and more than 50 articles and reviews. In 2002, he became the first person to win YU’s Samuel Belkin Literary Award twice. “Teaching at Stern and directing the Jewish studies program have had a wonderful impact on my research and publications and vice versa. To be able to teach and to work in such a fruitful and positive academic environment is truly a blessing.”
