Chag Hasemikhah Dinner 09

SPOTLIGHT ON...

Sion Setton
Semikhah student

Sion Setton thumbnailThe RIETS semikhah programs opened my eyes and broadened my horizons to things I otherwise would not have experienced. Our teachers are extremely loving and caring about our growth and success.

These meaningful relationships with rebbeim and classmates gave me the amazing opportunity to work in Ramaz and the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue. The social network at RIETS surpasses all expectations. The education we receive alters our lives and, I hope, will enhance those of our own children and students.

Chag Hasemikhah literally means the festival of ordination. Every four years, the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, an affiliate of Yeshiva University, celebrates the young men who have accepted the calling of the rabbinate and those who have mastered the scholarship necessary to receive the title rabbi (literally teacher).

This event is truly cause for celebration, for scores of RIETS rabbis can be found in pulpits, schools, hospitals, outreach positions and Jewish organizations throughout North America, Israel and beyond. We proudly salute our rabbis, who lead the Jewish communities where they reside. We wish them well in their holy endeavors and continually welcome back to RIETS – their spiritual home – for continuing education, contact with their mentors and social interaction.
