    The Last Emporer wins for Best Picture at the Academy Awards; Michael Douglas (Wall Street) and Cher (Moonstruck) win for Best Actor and Best Actress.

    The Golden Girls and L.A. Law are the top shows on television and win several Emmys that year.

    Paul Simon’s “Graceland” wins Record of the Year at the Grammys.
