    Membership & Responsibilities

The University Benefits Committee ("The Committee") is established to advise Yeshiva University administration on the ongoing review and update of the University’s benefits programs for all faculty and staff. The Committee's role is to bring forth and address employee and University benefit issues and needs by actively participating in the advice of solutions and resulting recommendations. The Committee is the representative body by which faculty, staff and administrators participate in the development of changes to the University’s benefit programs. The Committee is an important communication vehicle for our community. The Committee is challenged to view benefits as part of the University’s total compensation program and in guiding the evaluation of the benefits programs to make sure they are competitive in the academic marketplace, are financially effective and affordable, and meet the majority needs of our employees.

The Benefits Committee is chaired by the Chief Human Resources Officer and meets at least four times during the academic year. Most of its work is accomplished through a subcommittee structure, smaller groups made up of representatives from the larger Committee, which are charged to research, investigate, and make formal reports/recommendations to the full Benefits Committee.

The Benefits Committee's membership is drawn from the various faculty and staff constituencies at the Wilf campus, Beren campus, Cardozo School of Law, and Einstein College of Medicine.

The Chief Human Resources Officer may also supplement committee membership to ensure a demographically and organizationally diverse Committee, with up to five members. In addition, incumbents holding the following positions are standing members of the Committee:

    Provost
    Vice President for University Life
    Vice President for Business Affairs
Associate Dean for Finance and Administration at Einstein
    Director of University Benefits
    Director of University Compensation

The authority of the Benefits Committee is limited to providing advice to the President of Yeshiva University on major issues and initiatives in the area of benefits.

    Established February 2010

Benefits Satisfaction Survey is Now Available. As you may know, from May 21 through June 18 Yeshiva University asked a representative sample of employees to take an online survey of employee attitudes toward benefits. First of all, we are pleased to report that we had a strong response rate. With so many of you participating and making your views known, we are confident that we can use the results as a credible indicator of employee attitudes. Thanks to all who responded.

Second, while we are still evaluating the results and determining how they may impact our benefits strategy going forward, we wanted to get back to you with a summary of our key findings. Here are some of the more notable ones:

    • Respondents generally are satisfied with their benefits.
    • While more respondents are willing to pay higher monthly costs to keep out-of-pocket costs (deductible, coinsurance and copays) from rising, a sizable minority felt the opposite.
    • Respondents are willing to pay more to have access to vision coverage.
    • Access to out-of-network coverage and/or more in-network providers is highly valued.

We will incorporate this valuable information into our benefits strategy for 2011 and beyond. Please click here to review a complete executive summary of the Benefits Satisfaction Survey.
