Dr. Nora Nachumi is an associate professor and associate chair in the Department of English at Stern College for Women. She received a BA in English (with honors) from the State University of New York at Purchase and a PhD in English from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Her areas of expertise include eighteenth and early nineteenth century British literature, women’s literature, and women’s studies. Her published work focuses on writers like Jane Austen, Frances Burney, and Elizabeth Inchbald; on the eighteenth century theatre; and on adapting novels to film.

She has twice been Senior Class Professor of the Year and has received a Dean Bacon award, Senior Faculty member.

She is the author of Acting Like a Lady: British Women Novelists and the Eighteenth–Century Stage (New York: AMS Press, 2008) and of articles and book chapters on eighteenth-century novelists and on Jane Austen and film.
