Taking Leadership Training to a New Level
Goal: To inspire and train undergraduate students to better themselves as leaders and take an active role in the Jewish communal landscape.
Through discussion, text, experiential exercises, and guest speakers, Quest provokes thought and action amongst budding Jewish leaders. Philosophy of Jewish leadership provides a background to understanding leadership theories and practical skills.
Quest is divided into two parts. Each part is a semester long experience.
Quest meetings will be from 8-10pm on Wednesday nights, meetings will alternate between both campuses.
The learning objectives of Quest I are:
- To analyze various styles of Jewish and other Leaders in order to better understand successful leadership
- To assess personal leadership strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan to enhance skills and experience.
- To gain exposure to Jewish leaders and organizations that thrive under successful leadership
- To understand values and contexts that underlies Jewish leadership.
- To spend time working on specific skills like public speaking and time management which are the building blocks of successful leaders.
Quest II takes what was learned in Quest I and focuses on implementation and practical application of skills and overcoming obstacles to success.
Quest participants are matched up with Jewish organizations and spend time analyzing and exploring the inner workings of the organization through a special project designed for the Quest Fellows. Working on such a project gives participants real world exposure and experience. Guidance and debriefing are done in the Quest environment with an understanding that the experience is to be assessed at regular intervals to maximize learning opportunities.
