PARENTS

Welcome!  We at the Career Development Center (CDC) are very excited to assist your sons or daughters as they embark on their career development journey. The CDC offers a wide range of programs and resources to undergraduate students from Yeshiva College, Stern College for Women, and Sy Syms School of Business on both the Beren and Wilf campuses.  While we recommend that students come to see us early on in their college career, we are happy to meet with students anytime during their time at Yeshiva and beyond to assist them in the career development process.  Towards this end, the CDC realizes what a critical role you, as family members, play in students’ lives.  Therefore, we turn to you for your support in encouraging your young adult to take advantage of our resources including:

  • Counseling Appointments - provide support and guidance in selection of majors and careers and self-assessment, as well as develop a relationship with a career counselor who can assist in all aspects of the internship, job, or graduate school search and application process
  • Career Testing and Assessments - provide first steps for analyzing skills, values, and interests
  • Industry and Major Fact Sheets - offer a starting point for research into the wide range of opportunities available to YU students and graduates
  • Career Panels - present students with the opportunity to learn directly from professionals in an industry about their field
  • Document Review - assists in developing and editing resumes, cover letters, and graduate school essays
  • Workshops - facilitate development and implementation of strategies to find and succeed at jobs and internships
  • Professional Communications Seminars – designed to help teach students how to speak and write in a professional manner
  • YU CareerLink – designed for students to access and apply for our online job and internship postings, which we are constantly updating
  • On-Line Resources - include InterviewStream, a tool that allows students to practice interviewing from their own computers, Vault.com, an extensive database with career, industry, and company research, and many more links on our web site to other sites for information and opportunities
  • YU InfoLink Informational Interview Database - allows students to connect with alumni and other volunteers to learn about different career fields

To find out more about the broad range of other programs and services we offer, please explore this website and encourage your sons/daughters to do the same.

We also invite you to be a partner in the career development process of your sons/daughters. While they are struggling to achieve independence financially, emotionally, and personally, they do rely on your input.  Sharing with them your decision-making process, helping them network with friends and family members for informational interviews, and encouraging them to explore, experiment, and expand their options will be invaluable to them as they go through college. Click here to view a timeline we developed to help students think about the career development process.

We also invite you to partner with the CDC in a variety of ways.  You may wish to sign up to be a volunteer resource on YU InfoLink, offer your expertise to students as a speaker on one of our career panels, or share job and internship opportunities with the CDC.  To sign up for YU InfoLink, click here.  To post an internship or job opportunity, click here or email Sarah Rosen, our Director of Employer Relations, at sarah.rosen@yu.edu.

We are eager to help our students achieve their goals for academic and career success. We encourage you to refer students, no matter what year at Yeshiva (they can never start too early!), to take advantage of our resources and services.
