Student Spotlight: Estie Neff
Estie Neff is currently a junior at Stern College for Women majoring in English Communications with a concentration in Journalism. Estie grew up in New Rochelle, but now resides in Teaneck, NJ. At first, Estie considered a major in psychology, but then decided to be an English communications major because she loved to write. She is currently a staff writer for The Observer and is the club head for I-Give, which is a charity organization based on campus to connect Stern students with volunteer opportunities in the Jewish community.
When Estie learned about the Spring 2009 Career Fair, she came to the CDC during walk-in hours and discussed how to best prepare for the fair. On the day of the event, she gave out her resume to various companies, and landed an internship with Quantum Networks, a company provides equipment and research for the latest 4G technology, called WiMAX, which stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. She is currently working for Quantum Networks part-time, where she researches and posts blogs about technology and sends out their weekly Digest.
Estie’s goal is to have a career in the publishing world as a writer and as an editor. Ideally Estie would like a career where she can be involved in the editing process and write about issues she is interested in such as History. Her advice for students is to get involved in extracurricular activities they truly enjoy, and they should focus on their passions to help guide them in their career decisions. She also warns not to be afraid to put yourself out there (she even felt awkward at the Career Fair, but it was well worth it).
The CDC wishes Estie all the best as she continues working at Quantum Networks and the rest of her time at Stern College for Women.
