Major Field Test Guidelines

Exit Requirements for Graduation

To be eligible for graduation, each student must fulfill an exit requirement in her major area as specified below. Students with more than one major must satisfy this requirement in each major.

Major Field Test (MFT) Dates for Fall 2012:

 Friday, October 26  9:30 

 Friday, November 16 9:30 

 Friday, December 7 9:30 

Departmental Exams:

 Friday, December 7 10:00

Exit Requirements by Department

1. Art History: Senior Thesis (ARTS 4970); Studio Art: Senior Project (ARTS 4975)
2. Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology: Major Field Test (MFT). Please complete the form below.
3. Education: NYSTCE. Bulletins are available in the Office of the Registrar.
4. English Literature: satisfactory completion of one junior seminar designated course (numbers vary; see schedule each term) and Thesis (ENGL 4000). Creative Writing: satisfactory completion of Creative Writing Senior Portfolio (ENGL 4001). Communications: see advisers.
5. Biochemistry, Jewish Studies, Physics, Speech Pathology/Audiology: Departmental Examinations. Please complete the form below.
6. Philosophy: exit paper—see department.
7. Pre-Engineering: Chemistry, Mathematics: major field test (MFT). Please complete the form below.
8. Shaped Majors and Joint or Combined Programs: see an academic adviser.

Students may take the GRE Subject Examination in place of the major field test (MFT). Please inform Mrs. Schechter if you are taking the GRE instead of the MFT.
