Basketball players

The 19th annual Red Sarachek tournament, to be held March 11-15 2010, is the most prestigious tournament for Jewish high school basketball teams.  Hundreds of student-athletes and their fans from schools across the United States and Canada gather at Yeshiva University for the event.

We are proud to announce a number of innovations for the 2010 tournament:

  • The tournament is being expanded to 20 schools.  Spots will be allocated as follows:
    • Yeshiva University High School (tournament host)
    • Best tournament record over the last seven years
    • The two top teams in the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School League
    • Two discretionary selections
    • 14 teams chosen by lottery (Click Here for lottery selections!)
  • The tournament is being divided into four tiers, each with its own champion.
  • The three year cycle for lottery participation will be continued as follows:
    • Any qualified school that participates in the lottery each year may play no more more than twice in three years, but will be guaranteed to play at least once in three years.
    • Over the last three years, this format has allowed over 35 different schools to participate in the tournament.
    • We are hopeful that with the expanded tournament, even more schools will participate in the coming years.
