JOHN CZARNECKI JOINS YESHIVA ATHLETIC STAFF 
Czarnecki named Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director

NEW YORK, NY – Yeshiva University Athletic Director Joe Bednarsh is pleased to announce the hiring of John Czarnecki as the Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director of the 15 sport athletic department.  Czarnecki comes to Yeshiva after serving as the Sports Information Director at Maritime College for the last two years. More

 

YESHIVA STUNS JOHN JAY 5-4 TO FINISH RECORD-BREAKING BASEBALL SEASON WITH 4-19 RECORD  
Feld drives in game-winning run during dramatic last-inning rally; Gornish gets three hits; Avner pitches outstanding complete game

(Brooklyn, NY) – Junior Drew Feld (Valley Village, CA/YULA) drove in the game-winning run to cap a three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning, senior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva) had three hits, an RBI, and scored twice, and junior Howard Avner (Northbrook, IL/Fasman Yeshiva) pitched a complete game as the Yeshiva University Baseball team capped a record-breaking season with a 5-4 win over John Jay College on Thursday afternoon at John Jay. With the win YU finishes the 2009 season with a 4-19 record, doubling the previous school record for wins in a season. More

 

CHARLES, ITKIS NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM FOR MEN'S TENNIS 
Duo leads YU to 6-6 record, berth in Skyline Confernece Semifinals

(New York, NY) - Yeshiva University Men's Tennis freshman Zachary Charles (New York, NY/Ramaz) and junior Joseph Itkis (Newton, MA/Maimonides) were named to the Skyline Conference All-Conference team for an outstanding effort during the 2009 season. Charles was named first-team All-Conference, while Itkis was named to the second team. More

Yeshiva closes 2009 season with 6-6 record

(Patchogue, NY) - The Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team closed the 2009 season with a 5-0 loss to St. Joseph's (LI) on Wednesday night at St. Joseph's College. The semifinal match, Yeshiva's first trip to the Skyline Conference playoffs since advancing to the championship round in 2007, marked the end of Yeshiva's 2009 campaign as the Maccabees closed the year with a 6-6 overall record. More

 

BASEBALL FALLS TO ST. JOSEPH'S/OLD WESTBURY DURING LONG ISLAND DOUBLEHEADER  
Gornish blasts first career home run in opener; Kesselman goes 2 for 3 in nightcap; Maccabees travel to John Jay for Wednesday doubleheader 

(Long Island, NY) – Senior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva) belted his first career home run, scored twice, and drove in three runs, and junior David Kesselman (West Hempstead, NY/DRS Yeshiva) went 2 for 3, but the Yeshiva University Baseball team dropped both ends of a unique dual-site doubleheader, 19-4 to St. Joseph's (LI) and 16-4 to SUNY Old Westbury on Sunday. With the loses, YU is now 3-18 overall and 1-15 in Skyline Conference play. More

 

MARITIME SWEEPS YESHIVA IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER  
Late rally not enough in opener as three Maccabees collect two hits apiece; YU travels to Long Island on Sunday for two-school doubleheader

(Bronx, NY) – Senior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva), sophomore Jeremy Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY/MTA), and junior Avraham Pinsky (Valley Village, CA/YULA) each had two hits, with Pinsky driving in two runs and Gornish scoring twice, but the Yeshiva University Baseball team saw its two-game losing streak snapped, 9-5 by Maritime College during the first half of a Friday morning doubleheader at Maritime College. After losing the second game 14-3, YU is now 3-16 overall and 1-13 in Skyline Conference play. More

 

MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO BARD IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE 
YU scores three singles victories but closes '09 regular season with 6-5 record; Macs travel to St. Joseph's for Skyline Conference Semifinals on Wednesday night

(Annandale, NY) - Three Maccabees scored singles victories, and the #1 doubles team of Zach Charles (New York, NY/Ramaz) and Benji Rosenberg (Vienna, Austria/ZPC) notched an 8-2 win, but the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team concluded the 2009 regular season with a 5-4 loss to Bard College on Sunday afternoon at Bard. With the loss, YU finishes the 2009 regular season with a 6-5 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Skyline Conference play. More

 

YESHIVA BASEBALL WINS 19-15 THRILLER OVER POLYTECHNIC, BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD FOR WINS IN A SEASON  
Weiner drives in four runs; three Maccabees knock in three runs apiece; YU combines for school-record 16 hits to improve to 3-14

(Brooklyn, NY) – Junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) went 2 for 6 with four RBIs, and Jeremy Schwartz (Brooklyn, NY/MTA), Binyamin Cooper (Teaneck, NJ/MTA), and Michael Litwin (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) drove in three runs apiece as the Yeshiva University Baseball team broke a school record for wins in a season after taking a 19-15 thriller from Polytechnic on Thursday night at Keyspan Park. With the win, YU is now 3-14 overall. More

(Queens, NY) - Four Maccabees earned two victories to lead the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team to its fourth straight win, 7-2 over Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Sunday afternoon at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ. With the win - a huge step towards clinching YU's first Skyline Conference playoff berth since the 2007 season - Yeshiva is now 6-4 overall and 4-2 in Skyline Conference competition. More

(Purchase, NY) – Senior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva) and junior Binyamin Cooper (Teaneck, NJ/MTA) had two hits apiece, and junior Zachary Weiner (Sharon, MA/Maimonides) pitched three fantastic innings in relief, but the Yeshiva University Baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Purchase College, 17-6 and 8-6, on Sunday at Purchase College. (Queens, NY) - Three Maccabees scored two wins apiece and the YU top-two doubles teams earned hard-fought victories as the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team won its fourth straight match, 5-4 over a pesky St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) team at the National Tennis Center in Queens, NY. With the win, Yeshiva is now 5-4 and has broken .500 for the first time this season. More

With the losses, YU is now 1-11 overall and 0-9 in Skyline Conference play. More

 

YESHIVA SCORES FIRST BASEBALL WIN SINCE 2007 SEASON WITH 3-2 THRILLER OVER CCNY 
Susswein dazzles during six hitter, strikes out 11; two-run bottom of the eighth inning breaks 40-game losing streak

(Bronx, NY) – Junior Benjamin Susswein (Yonkers, NY/MTA) pitched eight nearly flawless innings as he did not allow an earned run and struck out 11, and sophomore Jamie Englehardt (E. Brunswick, NJ/Rav Teitz Mesivta Academy) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Yeshiva University Baseball team scored its first win since May 3, 2007 with a 3-2 victory over CCNY at Taft High School. (Edgewater, NJ) - For the second consecutive day, the Yeshiva University Men's Tennis team clinched a victory by scoring five singles wins, this time winning every flight but #2 singles as Yeshiva downed Mount Saint Vincent 8-1 on Monday night at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ. The loss - coming in the first-ever Skyline Conference playoff match for the Yeshiva University Men's Volleyball team - drops the Maccabees to 7-12 overall. More

(New York, NY) - Yeshiva University Women's Basketball senior Tova Laufer (New York, NY/Ramaz) was named to the 2008-09 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) All-Conference team for Basketball. The honor marks the third consecutive season during which Laufer earned All-Conference honors from league as she led Yeshiva to the HVWAC Semifinals. More

YESHIVA MEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS SKYLINE CONFERENCE SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEASON; LEIBOVICH VOTED SECOND-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE
YU earns third Skyline Conference Sportsmanship Award of 08-09 season; Leibovich earns conference award after outstanding first season at YU

(New York, NY) – Yeshia University Men's Basketball junior Martin Leibovich (Buenos Aires, Argentina/ORT II) was voted second-team All-Conference by the Skyline Conference after a terrific first season playing Basketball for Yeshiva University. In addition, the Yeshiva University Men's Basketball team earned the Skyline Conference Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive season, becoming the third Yeshiva team to earn their sports' respective Sportsmanship Award during the 2008-09 academic year. The announcements were made by Skyline Conference Commissioner Tracy King on Monday, March 2.

It is with great regret and a very heavy heart that the Yeshiva University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announces that Head Athletic Trainer, Aaron Meyer, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The funeral will be held at Hellman Memorial Chapel in Spring Valley, New York. Down 16 points late in the first half, YU storms back to improve to 5-5, 3-3 in Skyline Conference play

(New York, NY) – After being cut from the Yeshiva University Men's Basketball team as a sophomore a year ago, Yeshiva Men's Basketball junior Aryeh Magilnick (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) became renowned as one of the most popular figures within the YU Athletics Department. A manager to the Men's Basketball program and assistant to the department, Magilnick's popularity revolved around his desire to perform whatever tasks were asked of him, and being dependable to complete his duties in a timely and successful manner. On Saturday night, Magilnick - now a member of the YU Men's Basketball team - lent a helping hand to the program that will not soon be forgotten. An outside shooting specialist, Magilnick's dramatic three-pointer with 0:03 remaining in regulation tied the score at 59 and sent Yeshiva's Skyline Conference battle with Maritime College into overtime. The Maccabees ultimately won the battle, 74-71, improving their overall record to 5-5, and bringing their post-season hopes to life. More

But as innocent as the play started, it was equally disasterous when it ended as a bizarre Polytechnic goal with 6:20 remaining in regulation gave the Fighting Blue Jays a 1-0 win over Yeshiva at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, New York. (New York, NY) – Junior Tamar Kram (Newton, MA/Maimonides) made a school-record 32 saves as the Yeshiva University defense held off a fierce Farmingdale State attack for more than 30 minutes, but ultimately fell 12-0 to the Rams during Yeshiva's 2008 season-opener on Sunday night at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, New York. YESHIVA MEN/WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ENJOY IMPRESSIVE FINISH AT BARUCH COLLEGE INVITATIONAL
Shapiro finishes third as YU Men earn fifth place finish; Wasserman, Faleck earn top-30 finishes as Yeshiva women place seventh; YU competes in Hunter College Invitational on Sept. 14

(Riverdale, NY) - Senior Ari Shapiro (Los Angeles, CA/YULA) earned a medal, finishing in third place in an outstanding time of 31:07 to lead the YU men, and seniors Brianna Wasserman (Bexley, OH/Bexley) and Dana Faleck (West Hempstead, NY/HANC) earned top-30 finishes to lead the YU Women as the Yeshiva University Men's & Women's Cross Country teams enjoyed outstanding performances at the Baruch College Invitational, held Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, New York. The Yeshiva Men's team earned a fifth place finish in a 13-team field, while the YU Women placed seventh out of 15 schools participating.  More

YESHIVA UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES THREE ADDITIONS TO ATHLETICS STAFF
Thompson/Alessi to assist YU Soccer programs; Arnold Ross named Women's Volleyball 2nd Assistant Coach

(New York, NY) – Yeshiva University Director of Athletics Joe Bednarsh has announced the hiring of three new Assistant Coaches to the YU Athletics Staff. Former Kalamazoo College standout and Assistant Coach Dr. Todd Thompson will join the YU Men's Soccer Staff as an Assistant Coach. Former Mount Saint Vincent goalie Alexis Alessi will serve the Yeshiva University Women's Soccer program as an Assistant Coach. Also joining the YU staff is former Mount Saint Vincent star Arnold Ross, who will serve as an Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach. All three additions will join the Yeshiva staff for the upcoming season.  More
 
OSORIO NAMED ASSISTANT WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH AT YESHIVA UNIVERSITY
Former Mount Saint Vincent two-sport standout earned nine Skyline Conference awards during stellar college athletics career

(New York, NY) – Yeshiva University Director of Athletics Joe Bednarsh has announced the hiring of Cynthia Osorio as the University’s Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach. Osorio, a recent graduate of fellow Skyline Conference program the College of Mount Saint Vincent, spent the last four years as one of the top Women’s Soccer players in the Skyline Conference, earning All-Conference honors during her final three seasons in Riverdale. She was also a four-time All-Conference selection in Soccer by the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC), and a two-time Skyline Conference All-Conference pick in Lacrosse. More
